The Three Musketeers Arrive in Stirling!

That’s right, our annual pantomime season has started! Our talented cast and crew of The Stirling Festival Theatre have been buzzing with lots of activity the past few weeks getting this year’s Panto of The Three Musketeers underway! And this year’s show is going to be another great hit, I can tell you! All last minute preparations of costumes and sets have been completed, and let’s not forget our fans’ favourite number of the whole show ‘If I Should Ever Lose My Job’ like you’ve never seen it before!

Many of your Stirling favourites return for another laugh-a-minute pandemonium production. Ken MacDougall is the playwright and director of the Three Musketeers and who also wrote and directed last year’s adored Rapunzel, while Debbie Collins has been busily choreographing the show. Along with J.P. Baldwin, Admir Haidir, Arthur Wright, Michael Hogeveen, Scott Christian as our Musical Director, and Quinte’s own Freddy Vette will be returning as our percussionist. We warmly welcome our first timers to the SFT Aryana Naddelin and Stefne Mercedes who round out the cast.

The full-length family version offers something for children and parents alike to enjoy, while the naughty version is intended for more mature audiences of nineteen years of age and older. There is also the school version, which is shortened, designed to appeal to kids as they get near to the end of the semester year and need some distraction! With over 40 performances in total happening from November 22 through to New Year’s Eve, we are sure one of these versions will appeal to everyone.

The Theatre Staff are looking forward to another Panto season that is hilariously funny, with lots of music and wildly colourful! If you have not booked your Three Musketeers tickets do plan to book soon, because some dates are now limited seating, but there are still are many dates to pick from.  So be sure you get your tickets before they’re gone!

Just a reminder that Sharron’s Christmas Party will be dropping in to the SFT.  Sharron’s Christmas Party is scheduled for Sunday December 14 at 8pm featuring stand-up comedy, music, talk show and controlled chaos … this show is not for the faint-of-heart! Though all others will die laughing!! Fans of the TV show “Canada Sings” will recognize Sharron as a winning mentor for many of the singing groups. This show does contain mature content and is for those 19 years of age or older. Before the evening show, enjoy a delicious roast beef buffet in our Upper Hall served at 6PM.

All your Favourites coming your way!

First favourite up is Stephen Kabakos, returning to the Stirling Festival Theatre on Wednesday October 29 at 2pm with Gospel to Rock and 8pm with Thirty #1 Hits! Executing a dynamic portrayal of authenticity that makes him one of the most highly praised and sought after Elvis Presley stylists in the country. With amazing accuracy, Stephen delivers an astonishing high-energy stage performance mastering the look, sound, vocal dexterity, and mannerisms of the King of Rock & Roll. Taking almost no time between numbers, Stephen changes into the different Elvis outfits from pinstripes to the high collared leather ensemble to white silk jacket and flared pants done up in sequins and broad belts with silver waist chains.  His exquisite styling, superb musicianship, talented vocal accompaniment, captures an authentic portrayal of Elvis Presley.  A show for all ages, and one not to be missed!

Up next returning by popular demand, is last year’s big country hit – The Legend In Black. The story of country music giant Johnny Cash who began his career as an outlaw to the Nashville country music scene, and went on to define country music with his unique mix of hillbilly music with gospel and blues that made him a household name. Bill Cayley brings Johnny Cash’s hits to life with his authentic sound and with his talented band to take you on a musical journey Saturday November 1 at 2pm or 8pm. This may be your last chance to see the show – it is billed as his Farewell Tour!

High Valley arrives in Stirling on Sunday November 2 at 8pm with Brad and Curtis Rempel! This just confirmed, The Reklaws, one of Canada’s best homegrown country band, made up of brother and sister Jenna and Stuart Walker of Cambridge. These siblings began their music career when they were just young children by entertaining the thousands of guests that visited their families “adventure farm”.  Known for their sibling harmonies and Stuart’s guitar and banjo playing, The Reklaws went from just young performing children to the hot family duo they are today, writing and performing great Country music. Just recently this past July they won the Boots and Hearts Music Festival/Sirius XM Emerging Artist Showcase voted by an audience of 40,000 die-hard country music fans. Celebrating the History of Stirling!

Nestled at the bottom of the Oak Hills surrounded by century old farms, lies Stirling, a village rich with history. Starting with the first saw and grist mills to how Stirling began to grow with a downtown dirt road main street dotted with specialty shops, several hotels, tanneries, blacksmith harness and saddle shops.

Now this is to be celebrated in a new Community play by local playwright Richard Turtle. He has spent the past year preparing a full-length script following the stories from local residents and doing much research about the rural roots of this area. The script will explore our relationship with the land.

You can be a part of the development of this play. Everyone is invited to join us at 7:00 pm on Monday Sept 29 for the first reading and then return on Saturday October 4 at 8:00 pm for a stage reading of the next draft of the play. There are many parts for everyone from children to seniors as readers for the characters in this community project. Reading the more major roles will be SFT favourites J.P. Baldwin, Debbie Collins, Ken MacDougall and Prince Edward County’s very own Rick Zimmerman. We are still looking for local musicians to join us for the staged reading.

The Community Play at the present time still remains untitled, but a question and answer session will take place after the read through where comments and ideas will be discussed to address the title of the play, development of the script, and other areas of staging.

The Young Company are also rehearsing a brand new script and score, Lord Of The Fries! Mark your calendars to come out and support our Youth October 16 to 26. Come and watch the mayhem behind the counter at Piggy’s Pork Palace.

With the plans for a full production at a later date, a full production crew including actors and musicians of local talent will play a large part in the final production to see and hear the final version of the reworked script.

For more information about this event or to participate in the Community Play Project contact the Box Office 613-395-2100 or 1-877-312-1162 and speak to one of our Sales Associates.

Getting ready to cut loose – that’s Footloose!

We’ll soon be approaching the first week of August and the Stirling Festival Theatre provides you with fun filled things to do with the kids to wrap up the summer holidays!

For weeks now our dedicated Young Company have been rehearsing to bring you this summer’s musical hit Footloose the Musical. A delightful combination of dance choreography with touching performances celebrates the exuberance of young people. The Footloose cast has many Young Company members returning from last year’s highly acclaimed production run of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” which garnered an overwhelmingly favourable audience response. With electrifying dance routines to the classic hits from the 1980 motion picture Footloose, songs include Holding Out For A Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It For The Boy, and of course the title track Footloose!

When Ren McCormack moves to a small town where the local government has banned dancing and rock music, he leads his classmates to defy the law and Reverend Shaw Moore to have a real prom. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend jealously tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. We hope lots of families will come out and enjoy this classic 80’s musical in this family-friendly show! “Footloose, the Musical” explodes onto the stage August 6 – 16 with special pricing for SFT Members, youth and seniors and also a Family Package available.

There are still spots available for our second week of Theatre Camps for kids aged 8-12 running August 18 to 22, where children learn songs, some dance and a little improvisation putting it all together in a talent showcase for family and friends at the end of the week to come and watch. Just remember that enrollment is limited to 28 participants per sessions. Please call the box office for registration forms at 613-395-2100.

Though Ren tries hard to fit in, and while breaking every taboo to bring dance back to the heart of a town held back by the memory of a terrible tragedy,  he encourages his classmates to revitalize the spirit of the repressed townspeople and to defy the local pastor to organize a rock n’ roll senior prom party. This classic tale of teenage rebellion and repression features a delightful combination of dance choreography with touching performances celebrates the exuberance of young people.  We hope lots of families will come out and enjoy this classic 80’s musical in this family-friendly show! March Break Fun with “Fairy Tale Ending”!
By Kim Whiteman

If you haven’t already started planning ahead for things the kids can do during March Break, then we have something at the Stirling Festival Theatre for all ages to enjoy!

For weeks now, our dedicated group of Young Company members has been rehearsing for their March Break show, Fairy Tale Ending, written by Kieren MacMillan and Jeremy Hutton. The SFT Young Company presents this topsy-turvy yet touching tale of a young girl who questions about the sudden changes occurring in the fairy tales she used to read with her Grandma. While the young girl comes to grips with loss and the reality of growing up, a “line up” of characters the Big Bad Wolf, Goldilocks, The Three Little Pigs, and a very ugly Troll are all questioned while taking part in a police lineup and are all interrogated for their crimes. With the help of the Cop, Jack and The Three (Little Pigs/Bears/Billy Goats/Blind Mice), the young girl learns that though real life may not be a fairy tale, it can be just as great! This witty script, with all your favourite fairy-tale characters and catchy songs, will have you in stitches, moved to tears, and singing along the tunes as you leave the theatre. All of our young company performers are all local students volunteering their time and talents to their community theatre, and their only reward is your attendance and appreciation for their hard work! Fairy Tale Ending runs the week of March Break 11th – 15th and is under the direction of David Vanderlip, SFT Managing Director. All seats are just $10.00 including all taxes. Great family fun for all during the March Break!

During the run of our performance run of Fairy Tale Ending, the Stirling Festival Theatre will be holding a raffle draw for a chocolate pizza and four tickets to our SFT Young Company musical Footloose. Raffle tickets sell for two dollars each or three tickets for five dollars. A winner will be drawn after the intermission of each performance, with the proceeds supporting further young company projects.

There are still tickets available for our St. Patrick’s Day performance of Shamrock Party! The Celtic Dance Company of Canada helps to continue the celebrations a wee bit longer with Celtic music and dance that’s sure to bring out the Irish in everyone on Wednesday, March 19th for one performance only at two o’clock.  Members $34.00, Seniors $36.00 and Non Members $38.00.

All ticket prices for our 2014 season include taxes.
