Two Great Summer Musicals not to be missed!

Don’t miss our musical production of Footloose, about life in a peaceful small town, until a rebellious city boy Ren who arrives to the small town where dance is forbidden. Though Ren tries hard to fit in, and while breaking every taboo to bring dance back to the heart of a town held back by the memory of a terrible tragedy,  he encourages his classmates to revitalize the spirit of the repressed townspeople and to defy the local pastor to organize a rock n’ roll senior prom party. This classic tale of teenage rebellion and repression features a delightful combination of dance choreography with touching performances celebrates the exuberance of young people.  We hope lots of families will come out and enjoy this classic 80’s musical in this family-friendly show! All of our young company performers are all local students volunteering their time and talents to perform in this show. Their only reward is your attendance and appreciation for their hard work! Footloose the Musical runs August 6 – 16 with special pricing for SFT Members and seniors and a Family Package is available.

And, if you are a musician, we are still on the hunt for young musicians to play in the band for Footloose. So, how about putting those guitar or piano lessons to work – just call the Box Office for more details.

This week is your last chance to catch Forever Plaid before it’s over on Sunday July 20th. Everyone who’s seen it has been raving about this show, which is the story about The Four Lads who began their careers in Toronto in the 50’s and were inspirational in the creation of this musical. Anyone who enjoys the vocal harmonies of the “boy bands” of the 50’s and 60s will enjoy this show, which is much more than just a musical – it’s full of great humour too!  Think of this show being the forerunner of Jersey Boys. Songs that are highlighted and performed during this musical production include: “Three Coins in the Fountain”; “Got to Be This or That”; “Moments to Remember”; “Crazy ‘Bout Ya, Baby”; “No, Not Much”; “Sixteen Tons”; “Chain Gang”; ”Scotland the Brave”; and “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing”. So take a trip down Memory Lane in Plaid style and fall in love as you sing along with the tunes that made this foursome a hit all those years ago!

Here are a few ideas to help. May Events sure to please!

April showers have certainly brought out the May spring flowers, and I certainly hope that with winter behind us, there will be sunny days ahead. After all, being cooped up during the winter months, we are looking forward to getting out of the house and doing something.

We are busily gearing up for our first show of the summer, Forever Plaid!  Some of our patrons will remember this show from its long run in Toronto in the early 90’s, but anyone who enjoys the vocal harmony of the “boy bands” of the 50’s and 60s will enjoy this show.  Think of this show being the forerunner of Jersey Boys.  A select few will remember The Four Lads who began their careers in Toronto in the 50’s and were inspirational in the creation of this musical.  The SFT will turn “Plaid” for two weeks from July 8 to 20.

Great Balls of Fire! It’s a blistering tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis and friends starring Joe Passion & The Shakers on Friday May 9th with a 2pm and 8pm performance. As a tribute artist for the last 15 years, Joe Passion combines the energy and excitement of the young Jerry Lee Lewis in this one day only performance!

Hotel California the original tribute to the Eagles draws crowds of all ages with the different musical styles with hits such as Hotel California, Life In The Fast Lane, Take It Easy, Desparado, Get Over It and many more. Enjoy the harmonies of this Eagles tribute band on Friday May 23 at 2pm & 8pm. A roast beef buffet pre show dinner is available in the upper hall at 6pm.

Let Abbamania take you back to the disco era as they recreate ABBA with authentic costumes, concert lighting, and with an amazing live band! March Break Fun with “Fairy Tale Ending”!
By Kim Whiteman

If you haven’t already started planning ahead for things the kids can do during March Break, then we have something at the Stirling Festival Theatre for all ages to enjoy!

For weeks now, our dedicated group of Young Company members has been rehearsing for their March Break show, Fairy Tale Ending, written by Kieren MacMillan and Jeremy Hutton. The SFT Young Company presents this topsy-turvy yet touching tale of a young girl who questions about the sudden changes occurring in the fairy tales she used to read with her Grandma. While the young girl comes to grips with loss and the reality of growing up, a “line up” of characters the Big Bad Wolf, Goldilocks, The Three Little Pigs, and a very ugly Troll are all questioned while taking part in a police lineup and are all interrogated for their crimes. With the help of the Cop, Jack and The Three (Little Pigs/Bears/Billy Goats/Blind Mice), the young girl learns that though real life may not be a fairy tale, it can be just as great! This witty script, with all your favourite fairy-tale characters and catchy songs, will have you in stitches, moved to tears, and singing along the tunes as you leave the theatre. All of our young company performers are all local students volunteering their time and talents to their community theatre, and their only reward is your attendance and appreciation for their hard work! Fairy Tale Ending runs the week of March Break 11th – 15th and is under the direction of David Vanderlip, SFT Managing Director. All seats are just $10.00 including all taxes. Great family fun for all during the March Break!

During the run of our performance run of Fairy Tale Ending, the Stirling Festival Theatre will be holding a raffle draw for a chocolate pizza and four tickets to our SFT Young Company musical Footloose. Raffle tickets sell for two dollars each or three tickets for five dollars. A winner will be drawn after the intermission of each performance, with the proceeds supporting further young company projects.

There are still tickets available for our St. Patrick’s Day performance of Shamrock Party! The Celtic Dance Company of Canada helps to continue the celebrations a wee bit longer with Celtic music and dance that’s sure to bring out the Irish in everyone on Wednesday, March 19th for one performance only at two o’clock.  Members $34.00, Seniors $36.00 and Non Members $38.00.

All ticket prices for our 2014 season include taxes. For more information on our line up please call our Box Office 613-395-2100 or 1-877-312-1162 and speak to one of our Sales Associates or book online at www.stirlingfestivaltheatre.com   Our new website is ready and waiting for you to visit.   Like us on facebook.com/stirlingfestivaltheatre or follow us on Twitter @stirlingtheatre
