Yes, folks, it’s time for the Stirling Academy’s Summer Musical. The Academy (formerly known as The Young Company) has been responsible for some of the best shows on the Stirling Theatre Stage in recent years.
Remember, none of these kids are professionals – many of them have never set foot on the stage before! But for the next few weeks, until the show opens on August 3, they will get the highest class of professional training. How to act, how to sing, how to dance, how to move on stage and much, much more. And how much do they pay for these weeks of training? Not a cent. This is a way in which the Stirling Festival Theatre works in the community.
And we are not talking about just a few kids, As I write this, thirty eight – yes THIRTY-EIGHT! – young people have been cast in the show. They come from Colborne to Tweed and from Prince Edward County, too.
If you’ve seen any of their summer shows in the past – Footloose, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Legally Blonde and many others – you won’t want to miss this one! The show is written by Broadway greats Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and brings to life many of your favourite Dr. Seuss characters, like Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. They will transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos and beyond!
If you and your kids have ever read Dr. Seuss (hasn’t everyone?!) you’ll want to see this great show, which will have you smiling all the way home. It runs from August 3 – 19 and tickets start at $15 for youth and $28 for adults, with discounts for members and for seniors. Prices do not include applicable taxes and fees.
You can book online at www.stirlingfestivaltheatre.com or call our box office at 613-395-2100 or, if you’re in Stirling, why not stop in and pick up your tickets in person?
And there are still a few spaces on our theatre camp from Aug 21-25. Fees are only $170 plus tax and you can find an application form on our website.
See you at Seussical!
