Relaxed Performances

What is a “Relaxed Performance”
?

A relaxed performance is a special performance with “relaxed rules” that are designed to welcome audience members who will benefit from a calmer sensory experience and a more casual environment. These patrons include, but are not limited to, individuals with an autism spectrum condition, a sensory processing disorder or a learning disability.

A relaxed performance is unchanged but will have a more relaxed attitude to noise and movement – ie. leaving and re-entering the auditorium. The doors to the theatre will be open earlier than usual so everyone can get used to their surroundings and the house lights will not go fully dark during the show.

One of the goals of a relaxed performance, now offered by more and more theatres, is to take steps to make theatre more inclusive. For a variety of reasons, there are many people who cannot sit through a traditional theatrical experience. The hope is, with a more relaxed setting, a greater number of people can come and enjoy our show. There will be a short talk before this performance to let our audience members know what to expect.

On Saturday, December 14 at 2 pm, we are offering a ‘Relaxed Performance’ of our Panto – Mother Goose.

Mother Goose, this year’s musical comedy Panto, is chock full of song, dance, comedy, improvisation and interactive fun! Mother Goose, played by SFT favourite, J.P. Baldwin, is a writer who has lost her story and all of her Nursery Rhyme and Fairy Tale friends return to help her.
