The Board of the SFT has been reviewing the structure of the Theatre for some time. With the recent changes in programming, the Board has concluded that there is no longer a need for a full time Artistic Director, and, consequently David Vanderlip is leaving the Theatre.

The Board would like to pay tribute to the work that David has done over the last seven and a half years. In particular, he has been responsible for developing first the Young Company and then its successor, the Academy, into the wonderful organization it now is. We are very proud of the work the Academy has done and continues to do with the youth of our community and anyone who has been to see the shows they put on will appreciate the huge amount of work that goes into them. David should be very proud of what he has enabled these young people to achieve. There have been some great shows: Footloose, Joseph, Seussical, which just finished its run, and many more.

We wish David every success in his future career.

The Board has appointed a part-time Artistic Director, and he will be well known to many of our theatre-goers. We are delighted to say that it is Ken MacDougall, who has written and directed all our recent Pantos and Murder Mysteries and has written shows for the Young Company too (including the forthcoming Hilarious Haunted Mansion). He has also appeared at the SFT in many plays and Pantos and he writes and directs for many theatres including murder mysteries for Mysteriously Yours. We are delighted to have been able to find someone of Ken’s calibre to join us and we are certain that the Theatre and The Academy will be in very good artistic hands under his leadership.

He joins us next month, just in time for the auditions for Hilarious Haunted Mansion on Saturday September 9. Anyone who wants to audition but can’t make that date should contact or call 613-395-2100 to make an alternative arrangement to be auditioned.
