CHANGES AT THE STIRLING FESTIVAL THEATRE, August 2017

by Andrew Marre The Board of the SFT has been reviewing the structure of the Theatre for some time. With the recent changes in programming, the Board has concluded that there is no longer a need for a full time Artistic Director, and, consequently David Vanderlip is leaving the Theatre. The Board would like to pay tribute to the work that David has done over the last seven and a half years. In particular, he has been responsible for developing first the Young Company and then its successor, the Academy, into the wonderful organization it now is. We are very

HATS OFF TO SEUSSICAL! July 2017

Have you been past the Stirling Festival Theatre lately? If you haven’t, you should, because if you look up at the marquee (that’s the entrance, or to be more accurate the sort of roof over the entrance), you will see not the Cat, but his Hat. Yes, he is in residence, and he has hung his Hat on the marquee! It looks grand and it reminds everyone that Seussical The Musical, based on some of Dr. Seuss’s best work is in rehearsal as I write. It’s not long till opening night. The show runs from August 3 – 19, on Thursdays,

STILL TIME FOR SEUSSICAL! July 2017

There’s still time to come and see the Stirling Festival Theatre Academy’s great summer show – Seussical The Musical. It’s a glorious show, in the best tradition of the Academy’s summer shows. It’s just packed with music, laughter and, of course, the wonderful words of the great Dr. Seuss. There are 38 kids on stage and they’re having as much fun as the audience – and that’s a LOT of fun! Don’t forget these kids are from all over the area, they all go to local schools and none of them pay a cent for the training they get. The SFT

THIS WEEK AT THE STIRLING FESTIVAL THEATRE, May 2017

by Andrew Marre As I sit and write, the rain is pouring down outside, the Rawdon Creek is as high as anyone living here can remember at this time of year and it barely seems like Spring. But it IS Spring, as you can tell from the daffodils, the tulips and all the other plants coming into flower, despite the cool damp weather. Spring in Canada; a time of youth – all the birds busy making nests and laying eggs and preparing for their young. And it is an appropriate season for Canada, because we are a young country, 150

COMEDY AT THE SFT NEXT WEEK! May 2017

So, at long last the weather is improving – getting warmer and sunnier. And we have humming birds and orioles on our feeders at home, and more and more flowers emerging every day. It’s a great time to be alive. And it’s a great time to go to the theatre, too. Next week, on May 26 there’s a terrific comedian coming to the SFT – Anne Marie Scheffler, in her one woman show Suddenly Mommy. “Have I learned nothing from dating badly?” she asks. “I lose myself to my sons, in the same way I was vampire food for those charismatic,

Every year, the Stirling Festival Theatre puts on a show to raise funds for the Campbellford Memorial Hospital, which those of us who have needed to use its services, know is a great little hospital dedicated to wonderful treatment. This year, we have a great show on Friday May 6 at 8 pm, with the Campbellford District High School Jazz Bands and a very special guest artist, Juno-nominated Alysha Brilla. Alysha Brilla’s route to success took her from southwestern Ontario through to Los Angeles and the Junos. She released her first full-length album In My Head – a record she produced on

In the film, the mysterious Kira (Olivia Newton-John) appears to assist and inspire a young artist, Sonny Malone (Michael Beck). When she helps him meet up with the rich Danny McGuire (Gene Kelly), the two join up together to create an artistic and business success – a unique club called “Xanadu.” Now the SFT Academy is bringing this to the stage and it’s full of laughter, music… and roller-skating. Last chances to see JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, December 2016

by Andrew Marre So, it’s almost Christmas and what could be better than to celebrate the season at the Stirling Festival Theatre at this year’s musical comedy Panto – Jack and the Beanstalk. This is a wonderful time to work at the theatre; it’s busy every night, everyone is having a great time, the theatre is full of laughter and everyone leaves with a big smile on their face There are only a few performances left to enjoy; there are both family (suitable for children of all ages) and naughty (over 19s only) shows between now and the final show on
