Upper Hall Grand Re-Opening & AGM

7:00 Tuesday March 20

Come and celebrate the completion of our spectacular renovations to the Eugene Burrell Hall! The bar area will be officially opened, and complimentary beverages and appetizers will be served.

After the official opening, stay and take part in our Annual General Meeting, where the future of your theatre is planned The Board is recommending the following resolution to change Bylaw 15 which currently reads:  At each succeeding general annual meeting, one third (1/3) of the total number of directors shall be elected for a period of three years to fill the vacancies of the retiring directors, who are eligible for re-election. Resolved that this section of Bylaw 15 be changed to: At each succeeding general annual meeting, directors shall be elected for a period of three (3) years to fill the vacancies of retiring directors.                        See you March 20!

Frank and Crew hard at work!
Okay, maybe Frank, Dan and Andre aren’t really using Tonka Trucks to renovate the hall, but they’re sure having a good time pulling down walls and creating lots of rubble!

Renovations started on Tuesday Jan 2, just a day-and-a-half after closing this year’s panto – whew! Project Manager Frank Stapley reports that things are going well and the project is on schedule and on budget. New full-time Tech Assistant Dan Dafoe is once again proving invaluable, and co-op student Andre Morin (who was so amazing as Gideon in the panto) and architecture student Aaron Whalen have been terrific assets as well.

Electrician Don Stewart has replaced the old breaker panels, and the hall is being re-wired as well as renovated, bringing the room 100% up to Code for the first time in decades!

More photos will be available on our Website soon.

If you’re near the Theatre in the next few weeks, stop in and have a look… Doug and Gary Couch will be in soon to start painting, and our new 18’ mahogany bar will be installed sometime in mid-February.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the grand re-opening!

PINOCCHIO EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS

We all had our fingers crossed that running our Panto for an extra week after Christmas would work out… and it did! This year’s show smashed all previous records… here are some statistics:

We’re hoping that the Family show numbers will continue to grow, and that more folks will bring their kids to see next year’s production of Goldilocks… SFT Members know that it really is the best way to introduce kids to the magic of theatre!

The New Year’s show was also a fun experiment – many thanks to Don Harron, who created brilliant new material for our pre-show Dinner guests, including a rhyming barn-dance-style poem read by Charlie Farquharson! Thanks to all who came and shared their holiday with us.

PETER PAN FLIES TO THE SFT!

Just a couple of months ago, we announced that we were producing ANNIE this August, but when the show rights were suddenly pulled due to a major National Tour coming through Toronto in March, we had to do some pretty fast thinking!

Caroline decided to go with a show she’s wanted to do for years… PETER PAN.  Everyone knows the story of the boy who won’t grow up, and of the villainous Captain Hook (who will be played by the charismatic Steven Gauci, returning from a year in China) We are working with Frank Pinder of Greer Galloway to make sure that the theatre’s overhead structure will support the mechanisms involved in flying people… no promises yet that Peter will fly, but that’s what we’re shooting for!

If you still have Annie tickets, and we haven’t managed to contact you about the change, please give us a call so we can either re-book or refund your tickets.
