Ken MacDougall, Artistic Director
I am very excited to be appointed the new Artistic Director of the Stirling Festival Theatre as of September 2017. SFT, and the town of Stirling, have been a second home to me for nearly twenty years.
First, I would like to thank Caroline Smith for being a mentor to me and giving me many of the tools necessary for this job. She gave me my first break as an actor (1999), gave me my first directing job (2003) and our writing projects together laid the groundwork for my writing career. I would also like to thank David Vanderlip for his years of service to SFT and for the incredible work he did building the Stirling Festival Young Company.
Over the years, I have been lucky enough to perform on stages across Ontario – Port Hope Festival, Gaiety Theatre in Collingwood and Georgian Theatre in Barrie to name a few. For twenty years, I performed regularly with the Mysteriously Yours Dinner Theatre in Toronto. I have had roles in over two dozen commercials and on TV shows such as Murdoch Mysteries, Degrassi: Next Generation, Mayday and King.
Here in Stirling, I performed in five Pantos, including the first ever Naughty Panto in 2000. I am often stopped on the streets of Stirling and reminded of my character Woody… “Chop, chop, Woody!” I also appeared in numerous summer shows including Kitchen Witches, Anne of Green Gables and Mini Putt. Since 2010, I have been the Writer and Director of all of the popular Pantos and have written and performed in the dinner theatres in the Eugene Burrell Hall since 2003.
My mantra for SFT, moving forward, is “making new friends and reconnecting with old.”

Charlotte Danford, General Manager
Charlotte has been with Stirling Festival Theatre since 2008 and is now the General Manager. In addition to her administrative responsibilities, you can find her in the Box Office selling tickets or coordinating and looking after the many groups that visit the SFT.
She looks forward to speaking with you for all your ticket needs, big or small !
Joanne Hartman, Media Coordinator
Joanne has been with the Stirling Festival Theatre since 1999. Many of you will remember her as the ‘Group Chick’ (Group Sales Coordinator) who booked and looked after all the bus tours and office Christmas parties.
She moved into a different area of the theatre in 2012 taking on responsibilities as Media Coordinator. But that doesn’t mean she won’t answer the phone and sell you a ticket – after all… that’s what we do!

Darrell Nelham, Technical Coordinator / Set & Lighting Designer
Hailing from the plains of Manitoba, Darrell longed to be able to take what he saw in his imagination and put it on the stage for all to see. Moving to Belleville to work with the Stirling Festival Theatre in 2008 was the perfect opportunity and fit to do just that. From the junkyard of Cats, to the diner of Piggy’s Pork Palace, Darrell has had the joy of bringing all the shows to life. So what crazy and fantastical place will the SFT come up with next? You’ll just have to come and find out!
Nancy Garrod, Young Company Music Director & Stage Manager / Panto Props Coordinator & Assistant Stage Manager
From “performing” in front of her Kindergarten students to acting and working backstage, the theatre has always been a very important aspect of Nancy’s life! After graduating from York University and Toronto Teachers’ College, Nancy pursued a teaching career in Toronto and then in the Quinte area. After retirement, she began her second “career” in the theatre. She has had the opportunity to perform with many local theatre companies including the Belleville Theatre Guild, Westben and The Village Theatre. Nancy then decided to develop her skills as a part of the theatre production team and has worked as a concert manager (Quinte Symphony), stage manager, props coordinator, follow spot operator and producer with a variety of area theatre groups. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for Belleville Theatre Guild as well as serving on the Boards of Westben, Quinte Symphony and the Stirling Festival Theatre. Nancy is thrilled to be working with the SFT as the props coordinator, assistant stage manager for the annual Panto and as the stage manager and music director for the SFT Young Company. In her spare time you may find her singing with the Westben Festival Chorus or tapping her toes at the Quinte Ballet School of Canada!!
Donna Carlisle, Costume Designer & Head of Wardrobe
Donna Carlisle is our Costume Designer and works with the show production team to bring her costume designs to life. That often includes sewing, building, buying, renting, borrowing and reworking stock to meet the needs of the show. As Head of Wardrobe since 2010, she oversees our costume resources and manages the costume shop, including a great team of sewers.
In her other life, she has been a partner in a farrow to finish business for over 30 years in the beautiful Oak Hills (that’s a pig farm for all you townies). Donna is a graduate from Sheridan College in the Fashion Technique and Design program and has certificates in business management from Loyalist College.
Some of her favourite design credits are Joseph And the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (2013), Hats, The Musical (2011), Forever Plaid (2014), Little Shop of Horrors (2016) and the always fun, annual SFT Panto.
Brad Stone, Audio Designer & Operator
I did tech for musicals in high school (before the dead sea was even sick), studied Theatre Arts at Niagara College and then toured with infamous and famous rock bands for longer than I should have. Finally retired from “real employment”, settled in the area and found the job I’d been looking for my whole life.
Stefan Patterson, Audio Designer & Operator
I started at the Stirling Festival Theatre in the summer 2010. I began as a volunteer operator on sound and lights for Driving Miss Daisy and The Last Resort. Since that time I returned each summer between College and University to mix sound for the Young Company summer productions. After graduating from University in 2013 with degrees in audio and multi-media technologies, I continued working on SFT’s summer Young Company productions spanning from Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat in 2013 all the way to Seussical the Musical in 2017. Since then I have had the pleasure of mixing sound for Hilarious Haunted Mansion and the Panto production of Little Red in 2017 and ToboR the RoboT in 2018. I am happy to be part of the SFT team and look forward to future drama and theatrics
Rich Eady, Volunteer Coordinator / House Manager
Rich has been at the Theatre since 2016 and is enjoying his role as co-House Manager. He says the best part of the job is getting to see the anticipation on the faces of the patrons on the way in, and the smiles on the way out. Rich works with the co-House Manager Kim McDonnell to prepare the theatre for your arrival and, with the rest of the team of staff and volunteers, they take great pleasure in working hard to ensure that your entire theatre experience is everything you imagine it can be.
Taking on a new role at the SFT, Rich is also our newly-appointed Volunteer Coordinator. He will work with our long-time volunteers as well as lead recruitment activities and training for newcomers to the SFT volunteer team. Kim McDonnell, House Manager
I am truly grateful to be a House Manager with Stirling Festival Theatre since 2016 and part of the amazing environment that entails our incredible stage actors – both the experienced performers and the SFT Young Company – and all those working hard behind the scenes. The actors are a breath of fresh air and I am inspired by their dedication and humour. I could not do my job without the assistance of the many volunteers (and we need even more!), the Box Office staff, Charlotte, Darrell, Joanne and, of course, my co-House Manager, Rich. My family has enjoyed many years attending SFT performances from the time my children were in kindergarten and I look forward to many more!!
Marilyn ‘Mare’ Lawrie, Webmaster
Mare has industry experience as an arts administrator, educator and consultant for Sheridan College, Loyalist College, the Living Arts Centre and community theatres throughout Ontario. She has held senior executive positions with the Quinte Ballet School of Canada, Belleville’s BDIA, Stirling Festival Theatre, Quinte Symphony, Opera Lyra Ottawa and the Quinte Arts Council. Equity stage management in opera has taken her across Canada and to Vermont and in theatre/musical theatre she has worked for the SFT (from the first fundraiser in Dec 1996 that led to the inaugural opening show Top Hat, White Tie & Tails in July 2007 and over 20 shows after that!), the National Capital Commission, National Arts Centre and Drayton Entertainment. Mare is enjoying her new role with SFT developing website content, fine-tuning images and figuring out new tricks with WordPress and HTML!
